c.1910 EXQUISITE EDWARDIAN 14k YELLOW GOLD & WHITE SAPPHIRE 1/2 Ct RARE HUGGIE-STYLE PIERCED EARRINGS
These gorgeous & rare Edwardian Era yellow gold & (aquamarinish) white sapphire earrings are stamped 14K on both huggie wires, & date to circa 1910. They are beautifully crafted & quite substantial featuring unusually large faceted stones, durable, & fully fun...ctional / wearable. Lovely delicate Tiffany prong set approx. 1/2 carat (each) white sapphires amazingly faceted to radiate the most incredible & lively shimmering light. The stones have a bit of an aqua marine color. This style of 14K yellow gold wire huggie is quite scarce to find. I could not find another example made just like these on the entire internet or in any of the many jewelry stores I went to in researching them. I did get the opinions of 3 local high class jewelers who tested them for diamonds. All three jewelers got inconclusive results with their electronic testers & resorted to a visual exam under powerful jeweler's optical microscopes. They were definitely not diamonds but blew away all 3 of them with how beautiful they were! All the jewelers were highly impressed with these beauties! They were extremely white & radiant under the scope & the only question was whether they were CZ or white sapphire. The general concensus was the latter, but since these were just verbal assessments the price is set in a range to cover it as both CZ or sapphire. The price would be more if I could certify & 100% guarantee them as sapphires. The fact that they have a very slight blueish aquamarine tone to them also indicates not CZ, as CZ's are made all one thing or the other (as in all white, or all aquamarine, etc.)....not with just a hint of a color, like real stones have. These are brilliant white with just a delicate hint of blue.
These earrings are a recent estate find that came along with other fine Victorian Edwardian pieces. The huggie wire construction style matches examples from that era, & such 14K stamped wires definitely were used around 1900 & later.
Polished excellent vintage condition. Clean ready to wear! The round stones measure about 4mm X 6mm each (just a rough measurement). The entire earring measures about 20mm wide X 15mm tall (to top of stone).
The prong settings for the stones measures approx. 6mm tall X 8mm wide at base. No damage or flaws. Comes in nice modern black velvet presentation box (as seen).
