Here we have a Vintage H.S.B. & CO. REV-O-NOC No. 7C Corrugated Bottom Jointer Smooth Plane (Stanley No. 7C). HSB Rev-O-Noc was a store brand from Hibbard, Spencer, Bartlett & Co., a Chicago hardware dealership that formed in 1882, but whose origin dates back to at least 1855. The name Revonoc isthe reverse spelling of Conover. Conover was the name of an officer of thecompany, and apparently had a separate hardware company prior to joiningHibbard, Spencer, Bartl...ett & Co. They used this backwards spelling of hisname for their brand of planes sold by HS&B from about 1920-1940. They weremade at times by both Stanley and Sargent, but this one is clearly Stanley madebased on the casting, frog, and twistedlateral lever the Stanley used for all their contracted planes. It has nice Mahogany handles with NO cracks. Just some minor nicks and dings. All moving parts operate smoothly. Japanning is approx. 75-85%. The cutter adjusting knob is the small brass version. The 22" Long body, sole and mouth are in very good clean condition. The body is not marked by the maker. The lever cap is the early smooth 'straight-shaped' slot type. The plane has a very nice heavy THICK tapered 2-3/8" wide cutting iron which is stamped with the REV-O-NOC info. This THICK iron is a definite improvement over the thin irons Stanley supplied The iron is sharp but should be touched up before use. There are no owner's marks. There are NO cracks, breaks or repairs in this plane. This is a heavy plane at approx. 7.5 lbs. (unpacked !). I offer FREE local pickup ! Note: Shipping cost quote is for PA to CA.
