Beautiful, highquality sterling silver spoon from Portland Maine dating back to years around1900 featuring on the front of the handle detailed images: state seal with starand rays, two gentleman, farmer and miner with a tree between them and elk infront, banner with wording DIRIGO and then fish caught on a fishing line, belowbanner reading MAINE, below head of moose with impressive antlers and tall treedown the handle. In the bowl it has colorful painted scene at waterfront, thewriting... is PORTLAND HEAD LIGHT. On the back of the handle itfeatures STATE CAPITOL, then PORTLAND HEAD LIGHT, below SOLDIERS MONUMENTAUGUSTA and ending with a pine comb. Measures 5-7/8” long (148 mm), conditionof the spoon is excellent, feels solid. On the back marked STERLING and hashallmark with the old mark of H on a pennant for Mechanics Sterling Company, which was subsidiary of Watson Newell Co.
