Found at a recent sale is this older Jack Black pottery figurine of a Navajo woman carrying a large basket on her back in very good condition with no damage or hidden repairs. The figure measures 10 1/4 inches tall, 4 1/4 inches wide and 4 1/4 inches deep. The piece is signed on the bottom Jack Black and dated 1984. Jack Black was a member of the Navajo tribe who was born in Galveston, TX and later set up his studio in Sedona, AZ. His iconic figures are made from pale adobe colore...d clay with a light sky blue glaze; the faces and other body parts are unglazed. Lovely addition to a Jack Black collection.
