Superb quality hand carved 32” circular wall art – masterpieceTitle: The Eagle, Killer Whale and flicker (Woodpecker) - by master artist Kolten Khasalus Grant from the house of Lilawagila from Gwa'yi (Kingcome Inlet)In the artists own words: "The design is from a Tlingit ceremonial box. Represented in this piece are multiple animals and entities, including EAGLE, KILLER WHALE and FLICKER (woodpecker)It represents the person or chief’s family crests from their creation story. The ...purpose of this is to allow the ancestors to look through as if it is a window. The curves on the design only allow positive energy to come through, filtering negativity. As far as the colors used: The negative space meaning the bare wood is TIME, the black is the UNIVERSE and the red is the BLOOD of my ancestors to get me where I am today"Measurements: 32" diameter, 1” thickThe artist: KoltenKhasalus Grant was born in 1992 and raised on the Capilano reserve in NorthVancouver (Xwemélch'stn) with relations to theBaker family. Khasalus means "profinient on the shore”. Musgamagw Dzawada’enuxw, Kwakuilth, Squamish, and st’a’mic. Kolten started carving when he was becominga father. He asked his uncle Klatle Bhi to teach him to carve. “I’m foreverthankful for this as it awoken my spirit, and my deep rooted connection withred cedar”. Kolten comes from the house of Lilawagila fromGwa’yi (Kingcome Inlet), Musgamagw Dzawada’enuxw., the Nelson family. Hisfamily also descends from the Kwakiutl of Tsaxis (Fort Rupert), the Hunt family. Kolten’s grandmother is from a beautiful town called D’arcy in British Columbia which is hometo the N’Quatqua and his roots are strong there. “Even though the art does notflow from there, my work ethic does”
