This is a group of 30 pages of research notes relating to the life's work of Ottawa Native American leader Jonas Shawanesse, who represented as Tribal Historian the Burt Lake Band of Ottawa and the Little Traverse Bay Indian Club of Harbor Springs. He spent his adult life fighting to reclaim the lands lost by his people from 1820-1850 through US Government treatie...s and less than favorable land deals. The group contains mostly handwritten notes along with some typed, relating to the land claims of the Ottawa of Emmet County against the US Government. There are notes taken from the 1840 John Mullet survey of Burt Lake, letter from the Secretary of War William Marcy, citations relating to Rev JB Weikamp and the purchase of Harbor Point, Power of Attorney documents, legal citations, treaty notations, newspaper articles copied by hand, US Justice Department rulings, and misc books...
Condition of all is very good, typical yellowing from age (see images). This group of research notes will make a nice addition to your own research.
