Very Rare and stunningly beautiful, 1902 Max Bachmann Bronze Bust of a Native American Indian Brave.
This simply fantastic, Cast Bronze Bust Statue measures approx. 18” tall and 11" wide across the shoulders of this proud Native American Indian Warrior. The figure depicts the subject wearing a war shirt but no coup feathers – his long hair wrapped with fur strips. The Bust is mounted on its original, marble base that measures 9” square. The Bust retain...s its original, rich and warm surface patina, weighs over 50 pounds and is a very impressive display piece.
The stunningly beautiful, Bronze Bust is copyright 1902 by the artist – Max Bachmann. It has cast marks on the back that read “5766 / Copyright 1902 / By Max Bachmann / Boston, Mass”.
Born in Brunswick, Germany, in 1862, Max Bachmann was active as a sculptor in New York City by 1899. Noted for his portrait busts, Indian heads, and allegorical figures, he had a successful career, which included a large commission for the Pulitzer Building in New York for a number of figures from around the world.
This rare and wonderful, Max Bachmann Bronze Bust of a native American Indian Brave is in excellent condition. The surface exhibits a rich and warm patina and there is absolutely no surface wear and no damage or repairs of any kind.
