Cerámica Servin infuses a contemporary artistic vision with influences from Mexico’s richly varied ancestral roots. In these pieces, Native, Euro, and Moorish elements are incorporated into a unique and unified body of work. Born on July 10, 1957 in La Lagunilla, Jerécuaro Gto, Javier Servin began drawing and creating wood and bone carvings in childhood. He studied plastic arts at the San Carlos Academy and later, architecture at UNAM. An inflection point happe...ned when he went to work in a ceramic workshop in Coyoacán, D.F. Here, he discovered his true vocation. Starting with a small workshop in 1981, he has established, to date, six more workshops, all family-owned and operated. Cerámica Servin produces more than 200 different pieces in high temperature ceramics. Each piece spends eight hours in a 1280 C oven. In addition to ceramic ware, new lines of porcelain and silver jewelry have been recently introduced. This particular piece is a charming, highly detailed trinket tray in a blue/ orange complementary colorway. There are no chips, cracks, staining or obvious wear. A previous owner has affixed felt feet to protect a surface underneath. They are probably removable, but I will leave that to your discretion. One obscures some of the signature, but it is clear this is a Servin piece.
