This is a 1938 Chicago Cubs World Series Souvenir Mini baseball bat and Pennant. The Bat is about 18" long and it states Souvenir World Series with no year given. However, the original recipient made a small note in pencil to the right of the lettering, reading, "Oct 5, 1938 Opening Day." . The blue felt pennant features two bear cubs and the word "Chicago". Pennant is about 8 1/2" long. Conditio good, signs of age and handling but still a very handsome piece. There is some rubbing on ...the bat to the engraved silver letters, with parts of the letter "R" and the last 2 letters in "Series" partially worn off but still legible. The pennant felt has aged but it maintains very good displayability, fully intact, ties and stitching good.
PROVENANCE : Estate collection of a prominent member of the Emil Verban Memorial Society, the invite-only Chicago Cubs fan club of Washington, D.C. that has counted presidents and Supreme Court justices among its members. The collector was closely acquainted with several of the "greats" from the 60s and 70s Cubs, and the collection includes personal letters and items gifted by the likes of Ernie Banks, Billy Williams, etc. I will be listing hundreds of vintage sports memorabilia from his collection in the coming months, including signed balls, photos, sports cards, pennants, etc. This is a CAN'T MISS for Cubs fans and a must-see estate collection for any devotee to the sport, so follow our page and stay tuned!
