You are bidding on an 1863 OttomanEmpire (Turkey)Montenegro Campaign Medal. The medal isused and is in good condition with limited signs of wear or age. The Turkish inscription on the reverse of themedal reads: "Relying on the Assistance of Almighty God, Sultan Abdulaziz, Sovereign of the Ottoman Empire.". Themedal was instituted in 1863 by Sultan Abdulaziz, and was awarded to theOttoman Forces under the command of Omar Pasha (Ottoman governor ofBosnia-Herzegovina) wh...o fought in the war with Montenegro. The Montenegrin–Ottoman War was fought betweenthe Principality of Montenegro and the Ottoman Empirefrom 1861 to 1862. In 1861 Montenegroencouraged a independence revolt in Herzegovina. The Ottoman Army theninvaded Montenegro. After a year of fighting the war ended withan Ottoman victory and Montenegrowas forced to acknowledge Ottoman rule.
