This striking "Royal Bar-Lock" typewriter is in "as found" condition.It was invented by Charles Spiro and produced by the "Columbia Typewriter Manufacturing Co." in New York. The "Bar-Lock" name came from a unique line of small vertical pins in front of the printing point which "locked" the type bar as it hit the platen. The "Royal Bar-lock" was the name used to market the "Columbia Bar-lock" in Europe. The machine is identical to the "Columbia Bar-Lock 8" that was sold in the United ...States.When the keys are depressed firmly, the type bars strike the platen, unfortunately, the carriage does not move along when typing or when the space bar used.There are no cracks or splits to the black painted cast iron body, however, there is a little loss to the paint, mainly to the space bar, edges and corners.The black painted copper name shield is embossed with "Royal Bar-Lock", and this has retained much of its' paint, although, there are some small losses to the top.The lovely gilt lettering to the back is still clear and legible with a good colour.The plated metal parts have retained much of their nickel finish, although there are some signs of surface rust in places.I have tried to show the condition in the photographs.The double row key board has all of its' keys, there are no chips or cracks to these.The lettering, numbers, etc for the most part have a good colour, particularly the black keys.The serial number for this machine is "91412".There may be delays with deliveries into the EU at the moment and customs charges may be due on the items.
