Out of all the antique textiles I've ever come across, this has to be my favorite. And even though it was advertised as a turn of the century tapestry, and would be beautiful as a wall hanging, in my opinion, it is an area rug. It is absolutely beautiful with the old stitching around the edges.The designs, colors are amazing. And, the dog centered just makes it even more beautiful and unique in my opinion. It has that wooly, itchy feel, material. And, I didn't notice until taking a pic...ture of the back side, there's a very small hole, I tried to get a picture of it. But, I'm not sure if it even shows up. It's got so much character and history about it, any of the surface wear or places, in my opinion, aren't even noticeable. I tried to get some close-ups so maybe someone can see the character, history and just the beauty of this old piece. In my opinion, I believe it to be from the late 1800's, Victorian era. But, please look at all the photos and please be your own judge. The length measures approximately 49 inches long and across approximately 62 inches. So, approximately 4x5 ft. The hand sewn ? trim piece going around it has worn and is coming detached on a small part as shown in some of the photos. And shows edge wear around it in places. It doesn't have any type of bad smell or anything. NO type of smell that tells me it wasn't stored away properly. Again, NO type of bad smells. And it smells like it is out of a smoke free environment. I believe it was stored away properly. I just love this. And, I hope someone can see how beautiful and rare this piece is. Even with the minor imperfections mentioned above. Which just gives it more character. It's such a unique, rare antique textile piece. I would almost use it in an area where there isn't much foot traffic if used as a rug or as a wall hanging. But just looking at it, I do believe it's a rug from the Victorian Era. But, again, please look at all the photos and please be your own judge. Because it's only my opinion. Thanks for your interest and looking :) I wish I had been able to get some history on it.
