This is called "Designs for Midsummer Night's Dream, " and it is signed by the artist Bjorn Wiinblad. Below the title, Mr. Wiinblad has written the words Titania, Oberon, Puck, Bottom, the characters he chose to highlight here from Midsummer Night's Dream. He has sketched each of these characters separately and the matting, which is cut into oval shapes, highlights each separately.
The framed piece is 10" wide by 13" tall. Mr. Wiinblad and my later husband were friends and the artis...t drew several pen and ink sketches for my husband, which he then framed. I have 6 or 8 of them, all with this plum-color matting, and all in frames similar to this.
