This listing is for a vintage Brilhart Tonalin mouthpiece for Bb tenor saxophone. It is a "GREAT NECK, NY" era Brilhart, as indicated on the bottom of the shank. The facing number is stamped on the shank rather than on the top, indicating it is an earlier Great Neck era piece. These are the most ...desirable of Brilharts, and they definitely outplay later ones! This one has the serial number 35820 on the side inlarge font. The facing number is 4*, and the tip opening measures .086". This piece is in very good used condition. The tip, table, and rails are perfectly smooth. It has never been refaced or otherwise altered. The horizontal mill markings are still visible. At some point this must have been re-sold, and the price at the time ($6.00) was written on the table. It is still slightly visible, as the ink must have seeped into the plastic a bit. It is pretty light though. Sorry to say, but that price is no longer valid! There are two small tooth gouges in the beak. I'll let the buyer decide what to do about those. They could be filled, or you could just put a mouthpiece cushion over them. If you want them filled with acrylic and smoothed, I could do that for an additional $25, although I still recommend using a mouthpiece cushion of some type over the top after that is done. There is a line visible on the inside of the mouthpiece, which at first glance appears to be a crack, however it does not go all the way through the material. I think it is either a scratch, or maybe just the seam line. Brilharts are, of course, prone to cracks, but as long as you treat it carefully and don't jam it on a dry cork, you should be fine. Early Brilharts, such as this, are great players, and this one is no exception! It's no screamer, but it speaks easily with a full bodied tone that is perfect for classic jazz styles!
Please feel free to email me with any questions.
Thanks again for looking!
