The bowl shows very specific Jugendstil geometrical motifs that resemble most famous Jugendstil designs created by Hugo Leven after Kayserzinn abandoned their floral Art Nouveau style. There is no manufacturer's mark, only the model number 685. This number in oval belongs to the pewter manufacturer Gerhardy, who produced many beautiful Art Nouveau/Jugendstil items in early 1900s - late 1910s.
In the year 1800 Richard Gerhardi started the firm GERHARDI & CO in Lüdenscheid. From 1888 Carl Steinweg made the firm very productive. From 1902 onwards, the firm made several beautiful designs and cooperated with great names in that time such as, Peter Behrens, Maurice Dufrène (France), Albert Reimann, Albin Müller, Joseph Maria Olbrich, Paul Haustein and Gottlieb Heintel (Berlin). After 1910 they produced inexpensive “tea and coffee services” . The factory closed in 1930. The bowl is in a very good condition - it shows some very minor wear and scratches, bot no damage or repairs.
The bowl is 14" long, 9" wide and 1" high.
