This is a Stanley No. 4 1/2 smooth plane in excellent condition.This plane was made during some of the golden years for Stanley, between 1931 and 1932, it's a type 15. I've gently cleaned this plane and taken it to a level where a craftsman would be proud to have it on the bench. I don't like to overclean or polish planes and like to leave the history in place. There are some dark areas on the plane but no rust, decay or pi...tting. I disassembled the plane and checked each part for damage or issues (none). All parts are cleaned and burrs filed or removed where necessary. Threads are oiled, any rust is removed and the plane is waxed and re-assembled. The result is a beautiful plane ready for use and in original clean condition; I think it's beautiful.The iron is sharpened with a slight camber to eliminate plane tracks on your work. I've taken some very thin shavings from hard cherry as can be seen in image #1 and #2. The plane works wonderfully, it's easy to adjust, solid and a joy to use. This plane is very smooth to adjust and it allows you to dial in the correct iron depth with ease.The plane has been well taken care of and there is no damage or repairs. The iron is full length and sharp, it's ready to use when it arrives to you. The japanning is about 98% intact with some small dings in the usual areas; toe, heel and mouth area. The original knob and tote are in beautiful condition as well. No damage or repairs to the original rosewood and it gleams in the light. It's a beautiful and useful plane for being 90 years old and you don't find them in this condition very often. The performance is outstanding with this fettled and tuned up plane. The 4 1/2 is the largest smooth plane Stanley made and it's a joy to use. A nice wide iron for large surfaces and a substantial beefy plane.
