Here we have up for auction a true classic: a vintage HORIKAWA FIGHTING ROBOT ! Made by the famed Japanese tin toy robot factory HORIKAWA sometime in the late 1950s/early 1960s. The design is terrific. The overall paint-job is a Horikawa brownish-gray with a magnificently colorful lithograph of electronic beauty placed behind a clear plastic chest-piece. Battery operation is done by 2 “d” cells housed in the back. The negative: It is being sold as NOT WORKI...NG. It had been working, however, I haven’t tested it in a while. If it has been some time since a tin toy robot has been run it can take a bit of effort to get them going. Well, I didn’t even have a chance to find out. I put batteries in the back and when I went to turn it on the front on/off switch just fell apart! It broke my heart because it is so nice. I guess it must have been a result of age (?). Normally, I would make the effort to find a replacement switch and fix it, but, I’m mostly getting out of the hobby and and just don’t want to put in the time to do all that – so I am selling it AS IS. Cosmetically, it has a few issues as well: I guess you’d call it a slight crack or chip in the plastic chest piece above the gun. Also, there is a slight dent in the battery compartment door in the back. I tried to take photos to clearly show those defects. And, of course the broken on/off switch (which I will still send along) The positive: Overall I’ve always felt this looked to be an outstanding-looking example of one of my favorite robots! Paint job looks pretty darn good all over. The chrome and metal pieces look really good as well. Not a lot if any rust to be found. The battery compartment is also really clean. The dome on top as well is free from cracks. As I mentioned before, I DID have this running and it worked well. Just a really fun piece. Such a great design I loved to look at it when it was just standing there! PLEASE NOTE: THERE IS NO BOX. I have had terrific experiences selling Internationally. However, there is one particular buyer in Asia who has bid on my robots in the past and won the auctions. Mostly it has been fine with them as well, however, there have been two auctions where they won robots - 1) one had a melted piece – clearly described and with a photo of it included in the auction, and 2) one that was not working – also CLEARLY DESCRIBED IN THE AUCTION. Both of these times, when they received the robots they contacted me and wanted money back because of the melted piece or because it was not working. I do my best to describe my auction items accurately and to take good photos. I do not want to go down this road again. So: THIS ROBOT IS BEING SOLD AS NOT WORKING. THERE IS A BROKEN ON AND OFF SWITCH. IF YOU BID ON THIS ROBOT YOU UNDERSTAND THIS AUCTION IS FOR A NON-WORKING ROBOT WITH A BROKEN ON AND OFF SWITCH. NO PERCENTAGE OF MONEY WILL BE REFUNDED DUE TO THIS CONDITION. YOU BUY THIS ROBOT AS-IS. There. That ought to do it. Please look at the photos as this is what you will be receiving. I paid a lot more for this robot than what I am listing it for, but have dropped the price due to it not working.
