Description A beautiful English antique 19th Century Georgian solid sterling silver vinaigrette box by the silversmith Thomas Millington- (1821-1834), in lovely condition and with a full set of English s...ilver hallmarks Birmingham 1821. Excellent quality genuine 198 year old example; decorated with attractive period prick/wriggle-work engraving and has a protruding edge lips (thumbnails) on the front to assist lid opening. Inside it has a fully gilt-lined interior and has a very decorative ornate pierced and hinged gilded silver grill. Tiny period engraved monogram in the cartouche and is complete with its sponge. Weighs approx 18 grams.Measurements Measures approx. 1.4 inches (34mm) in length x 1 inches (25mm) wide and is 0.4 inches (10mm) deep.Date English antique early 19th Century Georgian solid sterling silver with a full set of English silver hallmarks for Birmingham 1821 (date letter "x"). Good clear hallmark stamps on box and lid and includes the silver duty stamp of King George the Third.Maker Silversmiths initials "T.M", (Thomas Millington - 1821-1834), stamped on the box and lid.
Condition Lovely condition, with no splits and no nasty knocks or dents. The lid hinge and grill hinge both work perfectly and close securely, the interior gilding is in good condition with only minor wear. The elaborate pierced grill is in excellent condition with no splits or losses. A nice decorative example, direct from a private estate and fresh to the market.
