This is an unusual crystal set radio receiver. I think it was designed to be complex in order to mystify and sell the product. In reality it is a simple crystal set but that is where it ends. It is tuned by two helical coils inside that rub against the coil to select stations. Next, the crystal is housed inside a cylinder where the catswhisker can be rotated around for better station strength. You cannot see the crystal, but if you take the cylinder apart there is the crystal and catsw...hisker. I would say this works in that it only takes a diode and headphones to hear am stations. However, there are a lot of connections or "joints" for signal loss. The interesting part of this radio is the construction. A cast metal base, stamped and formed metal cabinet, the complicated manufactured crystal holder, and the helical coils, just to mention a few. The box is 6 by 3 3/4 by 6 inches. Sold as is and not working, mainly because of the work it takes to hear a crystal radio.
