Nude figure from Porcelain Factory Karl Ens, marked Ens-Porzellan Volkstedt on underside. This Thuringia, Germany business produced decorative porcelain from 1898 to 1975. An unusual, possibly scarce, item - I have been unable to find anything similar on any of the auction or collector's sites.
The piece is either an allegorical or mythological subject - a crowned woman sitting on a tree stump gazing downward, an owl sits in a hollow in the stump. Maybe a... representation of Pallas Athena, the goddess of wisdom? She was often depicted with an owl. Or an oracle gazing into the future?
Measures approximately 7.25 inches high, 5 inches deep and 4 inches wide. In very good condition with subtle chips to three of the crown's points.
