Excellent quality genuine 89 year old sterling silver example, a very impressive uncommon larger 9 inch size with a hinged silver lid and smooth polished finish and has a protruding silver edge lip on the front to assist lid opening. Inside it has its original clean cedar-wood lined interior and includes both removable dividers. Substantial heavy weight approx. 1060 grams, including interior wood lining. Has a nice period engraved military inscription and crest "From the Officers, Artists Rifles, 17th Dec 1930". Measurements Huge size, measures approx. 9.05 inches (228mm) x 5.65 inches (140mm) and stands 2.85 inches (70mm) in height. Date English antique solid sterling silver with a full set of silver hallmarks for London 1930 (date letter "p"). Lovely clear matching silver hallmarks on box and lid.Maker Silversmiths initials "R.C" (William Comyns & Sons Ltd). Condition Good condition, with no splits or cracks to the silver, no solder repairs, definitely no wear holes and no nasty knocks or dents either, just has little age-related dents & bruises from normal use, really nothing much at all and a nice larger sized silver box. The hinged lid works perfectly, opening and closing tightly and securely and the interior wood lining is all original and in great condition, with no splits or losses and still includes both removable dividers. Fine heavy weight with a good silver content and with a nice period Military inscription. Hard to find in this size.
