Up for sale here is a strand of Cornaline D'Aleppo whiteheart and yellowheart, or Hudson Bay trade beads that have come to me as part of a large estate collection of r...are beads, collected by a discerning traveller over several decades. If you view my most recent feedbacks, you will see that I have received a positive for another similar strand of Cornaline d'Aleppo antique beads (although not as rare as this one) which was successfully delivered to a Japanese collector earlier this year.
The smaller beads are oval, yellowhearts. The larger beads are clearly wound, round, whitehearts. The colour match throughout the outer layers is perfect between the larger and smaller beads. They are all a deep amber orange-red colour. They are old beads and their manufacture can be clearly seen in the windings of the glass and the beautifully preserved encapsulated bubbles.
I have taken some photos in a professional light box with a macro lens, and some outside, to show the colour as true to life as possible.
These Cornaline d'Aleppo beads are interspersed with early plastic beads of the bakelite type although they are not bakelite, they are another material such as casein or galalith. These are carved and the main pendant bead takes the form of a nut or pine cone. There are also two apple/lime green tabular early wedding cake beads with gilding that is applied rather than being inherent, as the old beads of this type should be.
This necklace strand is completely authentic and unaltered. The Cornaline d'Aleppo beads may be older than the other beads on the strand - they have been made for several centuries and some of the browner toned ones are the oldest, but they have all been strung together for decades on this strand, and are a very interesting piece of cultural history. I would not want to wear them as they are; the string they are on is very very old and I would say fragile, although it seems secure.
