Title: Mah Jong | Game Type: Family Game |
I found this at an Estate sale: I do not play the game, nor have any knowledge of how to play. This was a very clean and interesting find and I wanted to share with others who would appreciate this treasure!
I feel it is from the 1950's. Someone told me when you see th...e name spelled with 2 g's, it is rare or unique. This spelling, Maj Jongg, is on the red booklet. I have the orig. envelope that came with the game which holds the cards and how to play book: postage shows 28 cents. The date on the envelope is hard to read, but it might be Aug 31, 1973....???
The small tri fold books are years, 1951, 1953, 1968-69 (2), and 1978-79 (4). The Inst. book shows a copy date of 1978, and it has 5 paper BIG JOKER tabs: these tabs appear to be able to be folded. ( Again, I am not a Maj Jong player and can only guess at this). I try to be as detailed as possible on all descriptions.
There are 5 rails/ racks: all in nice shape: two dice, lots of coins. The Faux Alligator case does close, but the latch on the right has to be wiggled a bit to close. Maybe all it needs is some liquid graphite ....but that is up to whoever buys it. There is no key. The handle I feel is the orig. leather handle, not a plastic, or replaced one: it is worn, see pic, but not broken.
There are a total of 159 tiles: all in nice clean condition. The two racks inside the case hold 64 in each rack, 2 blanks, 2 decorated ends. total of 132 tiles. There is a bag of extra tiles too, 27 total in this bag. so GRAND TOTAL OF TILES IS 159.
Selling as is: no returns accepted. If you have any questions, or need addl. pics, email me back! Have a grand day!!On May-23-19 at 11:14:58 PDT, seller added the following information: A potential buyer asked if the set was complete: please view image no. 3, and enlarge it, so you can view all tiles that I have. I have never played the game, have no knowledge of it, so the buyer needs to view my images closely, to determine if the set is complete. NOTE; images 11 and image 12, are the extra tiles that were in a zip lock baggie, that was attached to the game. There are yellow and butterscotch colored tiles in this baggie. VIEW AND ENLARGE MY IMAGES. ALL SALES FINAL. Thank you.On May-23-19 at 14:02:17 PDT, seller added the following information:Additional note from question from potential buyer: this is about if the set is complete:....I think four of the tiles in the top rack, in image three, belong to the set in the lower rack.
trying to be crystal clear here....
The tiles with the round circles on them, are 1-9. ( 4 tiles each)
The tiles with the bars on them, where the '8' tile looks line a capital "M", are 1-9 (and the No. 1 tile has a bird on it, in this group) (4 tiles each)
The tiles with numbers 1-9, the numerals are in green, and these all have the same Chinese character on the, , go 1-9 ..(4 tiles each)
Then come the odd ball ones... N, S, E, W, (4 of each), then the black horizontal looking box design one, ( 4 of these), the red Chinese character, (4 of these).....and the Red Chinese sword looking thing...4 of these
2 blanks, blank on both sides..... and 2 strawberry looking ones that have a green Chinese character at the top... then comes the loose baggie of 27 tiles. Some butterscotch colored, some lighter yellow colored.
