at the beginning of the wristwatch era . All original, excepting the band and crystal, and crown- which are always replaced , the wa...tch is signed S&Co,
for Stauffer & Co., British agents for IWC at this time. The watch is signed IWC under the dial, refer to pictures.( if they are not signed they are not IWC movements .Gorgeous Gents military trench watch, English Market IWC (International Watch Co. Schaffhausen) with a Sterling English hallmarked case, hallmarked C N for Charles Nicolet, which is the correct case, beautiful porcelain dial with roman numerals. The recently overhauled movement is a 15jewel lever escapement. A period correct handmade leather ‘Kitchener” or “Saddlers” handmade band
for an authentic period look completes the watch nicely. A recent overhaul by
an expert in early watches allows this watch to actually be used, not just a desk occupant, or paperweight.
As you scroll through the pictures, please note the computer screen, computers are
used by all professional watchmakers, for adjustment and diagnosis. Sadly, the
pervasive hobbyist level operator wouldn't know how to use a computer
accept to adjust the regulator. This screenshot is from this watch. Also not the “gear”,
which is actually a mainspring barrel with a stop motion works on it, the idea being to improve accuracy
by narrowing the power range of the mainspring- never seen on lesser watches of the era,
such as Rolex
The details:Porcelain dial has several hard to see hairlines., and edge chips hidden by bezel, and repaired with white resin.
The blue steel spade“Breguet” hands are the real blue steel deal, not painted or “sharpie” marked.
The crown is not original, but period correct, which is more and
more usual as the original crowns are long gone! . As with nearly all my watches a NOS glass crystal is fitted.
