This auction is for a stunning example of a Carboniferous plant fossil from Writhlington, UK. The fossil sits in the original shale in which it was found that measures 35 mm (1.35 inches) across. The plant represents the fronds of a Carboniferous cycad. The fossil comes from the spoil heap of an old coal mine. The detail in the leaflets is amazing, especially under magnification. They are likely of the genus Alethopteris.Around 310 million years old (Asturian, Late Carb...oniferous), this fossil would make a wonderful addition to any collection.
