Vintage RARE Happy Jack SWING GUARD Folding Knife, 11 " OAL, 1988, 005,

This is a really BIG slip-joint Swing Guard folding knife, made by Happy Jack Knives. Since it is marked with the "Happy Jack" logo, it was most likely made while the company was located in Asheville, North Carolina, in the shadow of Happy Jack Mountain. Happy Jack Mountain was the source of the name Chuck Garlits gave to his higher production, bench made Happy Jack Knives. The previous owner was a collector from Illinois, and acquired it at a Midwest knife show.... Chuck Garlits also made some of the club knives for the AECA (American Edge Collectors Association), based in Oak Lawn, IL. And as some may know, Chuck is the cousin of Hall of Fame NHRA driver, Don Garlits.
The handle scales are jigged hardwood, with a Happy Jack U.S.A. button on one side. The button has a small bit of epoxy that apparently oozed out when the button was set. The stainless steel blade might be 440C, commonly used by Chuck. The front and rear bolsters appear to be nickel silver. The knife is in excellent, unused condition. There are some fine surface handling marks on the bolsters from storage and age. This is a slip-joint knife, with a small nail nick. It is a firm, yet smooth pull, and the blade opens fully with a nice "click". It makes a nice click when it closes, too. No half stop. The knife is serial #005.
I'll ship it in a soft cloth or sleeve for protection and storage - no box or case.
