Fantastic vintage B&L Ray Ban U.S.A. high gloss sunglass treasure for bids tonight. Here's a sunglass that's getting harder to find these days specially in perfect NEW condition with tags. These are mid-1980's Baloramas in high gloss black with the matching black G-15 lenses. Call them Dirty Harry Specials because these are the exact model worn by Clint Eastwood in the Dirty Harry movies. These black beauties feature a nearly indestructible zyl frame with 7-barrel hinges that were ...actually machined from a billet of solid chrome steel. If you look at them and feel them as you work the temples, it's pretty amazing to think this much effort would be put into the hinges of any pair of sunglasses. Well, they don't make them like this anymore. That's for sure. They come with their original and period correct black soft case with warranty card. The case is embossed with the BAUSCH & LOMB Ray-Ban circular emblem on the flap.
Hallmarking on the glasses includes the B&L logo etch on each lens and the white Ray Ban script logo at the top of the right lens. Stampings on the frame include "B&L RAY-BAN U.S.A." on the inside of the right temple and "BALORAMA" on the inside of the left temple. Note that this pair of Baloramas has the rare distinction of having the best features of 2 generations of Baloramas. You have the 7-barrel hinges of the first generation in combination with the lens hallmarking, particularly the white Ray Ban script logo, of the third generation. In addition, almost every first generation Balorama you find has a problem with the lenses not being fully seated in the frame. It was only at this rare nexus of 2 generations of Baloramas that all the problems were ironed out and the best features applied.
The condition of these vintage stunners is flawless NEW both lenses and frames. The lenses are completely free of any and all scratches, nicks, pits, chips and scuffs. The high gloss black frames are without a single scratch, scuff or ding. Both 7-barrel hinges are super bright and shiny and screw heads free from damage due to tightening. This really is a splendid example of this history making sunglass. As noted before, the glasses come with their original and correct embossed soft case in black.
