I love this beautifully embroidered silk shawl. I believe it dates to the Victorian era and is in excellent condition.
In addition to the floral embroidery, the scarf has fringing and some interesting corded work. It is 56" long and 17" wide at the center back, minus the fringing.
Truthfully, I'm not sure if this was used as a shawl or if it had some other purpose because I've never seen anything like it. I've shown it draped over the hip area of a satin skirt. I think it w...ould be an incredible unique, vintage accent for a wedding gown.
When I first saw it, I wondered if it was some sort of window treatment, but due to the V shape at the top, I think it was designed to be worn. Whatever it's intended use, it's a gorgeous antique textile to use as you see fit.
