Large 7 1/2 " Silver Fur Trade Beaver Pendant Marked HB And HBC With Montreal

A large 7 1/2" long Fur Trade beaver pendant or medallion, marked HBC in the center, and HB on each of the feet and the tail. Hand chased details and hand scribing on the tail. Low starting price and no reserve. This has been sitting in a drawer for over 10 years, so time to find a new home for this guy. It weighs over 57 grams, and tests as coin silver or better. This is really a nice example of the large beaver pendant.
Large quantities of trade silve...r was made in the 18th and early 19th century for trade to the natives during the Fur Trade era. They were made in a number of places, including Albany, Philadelphia, Detroit, St Louis, Montreal, and Quebec, as well as London. Many are stamped with Montreal or Quebec, regardless of their origin, as that was prefered by the tribes.
This beaver has a nice dark patina, and shows appropriate wear. That said, I cannot guarantee that this was made during the fur trade era. Please review the photos carefully, as they are the basis for you to form an opinion and bid. We have retired and are passing on some of the collections to new caretakers.
