It's every bit as charming as his chartbustersfor Mary Wells. Diana Ross' sweet tender lead, assisted by Mary Wilson andFlorence Ballard's warm harmonies, could melt icebergs. Ross' vocals on"Who's Lovin' You" are intense and bluesy; Wilson leads the soulful"Baby Don't Go"; and Ballard leads the raucous "ButteredPopcorn, " a tune more suited for the Contours. "I Want a Guy, "their first recording, had been done by the Marvelettes -- the backing voicesare buried, and Ross' voice sounds whiny and high-pitched. This song, alongwith the '50s-sounding "He's Seventeen, " are the only bummers.Ballard shines again on "Let Me Go the Right Way, " delivering a toughvocal on top of Ross and Wilson's enthusiastic vocals. "Time ChangesThings, " written by Brian Holland, Lamont Dozier, and Janie Bradford, wasa forerunner to later efforts by Holland-Dozier-Holland. Blues lovers willrelish the torching "Play a Sad Song." "Never Again" isstraight '50s doo wop; if you didn't know, you would think it was the Chantels. The original luster is very much intact, andthe vinyl shines and sparkles almost like new. (b) The record is pressed on a beautiful, thick, inflexible vinyl, whichwas usually used for the first or very early pressings. Usually, the sound onsuch thick vinyl pressings is full-bodied, vivid, and even dramatic. Do notexpect to obtain such a majestic analog sound from a digital recording! (c) The record comes in the original stock inner sleeve. (d) “Stool cover” versions of this album are much, much rarer, than thelater, common “color photo” covers. We estimate that “photo” covers of thisalbum outnumber “stool” covers at aratio of at least 200:1. (e) Stereo “stool cover” versions of this album DO NOT EXIST. Theonly “stool covers” are in mono. PLEASE NOTE that -unlike mono pressings (which we havehere), all original stereo pressings have inconsistency between the songslisted on the cover and actual songs on the record. This inconsistency is NOTpresent on the original mono pressings. (f) Of course, this is a full-bodied ANALOG recording, and not an inferior, digital recording!!! · THE COVER THE COVER IS NICE --- ABOUT VERY GOOD++ (VG++). The following flaws orimperfections are noted on the cover: - The front cover has a 4-inch tear on the opening side(VISIBLE ON FRONT SIDE ONLY); This tear was delicately taped by the previousowner with a piece of transparent scotch tape - Cover has some light ring wear (nothing significant); On thescale from 1 to 10 (1 being the least, and 10 being the most severe), we assess the severity of ring wear as 3 - Back cover has circular tarnish (grayish, dust-coveredsections, which closely follow the contour of the record), probably caused by friction or by rubbingagainst other covers during the storage. The tarnish is similar in appearanceto a common ring wear, but, UNLIKE ring wear, these grayish areas may bepossible to clean up with a minor effort and with a right cleansing solution. - Cover shows some light yellowing on back side, apparentlyfrom aging. - Cover has a small original price sticker, which may bepossible to remove with a little effort (we did not attempt to) - Cover has a few tiny wrinkles along the spine and the topseam (nothing significant) - Visible shelf wear noted on the bottom seam - Minor shelf wear noted on the top seam and spine (nothingsignificant) - Cover has a light "wrinkle" (crease) in one of the corners. - Cover has two corners slightly dinged (nothing significant) NO OTHER VISIBLE FLAWS OR IMPERFECTIONS ON THE COVER ♫♪♫♪♫♪♫♪♫♪♫♪♫♪♫♪♫♪♫♪♫ POSTAGE &SHIPPING: We offer THREE postage rates for both Domesticand International Mail: Media Mail, Priority Mail and Express Mail fordomestic, and First Class, Priority International Mail, and ExpressInternational Mail for international orders.
