Rare large and heavy Van Briggle arts and crafts pot. Shape #525. "Spiderwort".Designed and first produced in the year in which this pot is dated, 1906.This is a very heavy vase with great Arts and Crafts presence.Glazed in a very thick and rough matte green variegated glaze with much of the chocolate colored clay showing through on the highlights. This dark clay was used for only about three years during Van Briggle's early production years, ending in 1907.The pot is 7" in height and ...6" in diameter but comes across as much larger. It's an impressive early example of Van Briggle pottery. It is fully and clearly marked and dated on the base.Please do take note that although there are no chips, hairlines or repairs, there are numerous glaze pops and flakes. I hope they come through in the photos. I've had this pot for a long while in my collection and it is in my opinion a quintessential example of that movement.I am taking a huge chance by offering it at no reserve. It will be carefully packed and fully insured.
