Now, this is going to be a $20.00 to start, no reserve Auction since I got no real bites as a non-auction item for sale. This is a very nice 1940 Shipps Clipper Motor Scooter built from plans in a 1940 Popular Mechanics Magazine. The original plans were to build this out of wood. I have had these plans for over 40 years & a few years ago I decided to make one out of wood and I liked it so much I built the 2nd one out of steel using the exact same dimensions. Then I sold those some ...years back and decided to make a 3rd one. This one I built 6 inches longer than the first two that the plans called for. So my wife & I could ride it at the Pomona Fair Grounds at the car shows & swap meets. This is all new & believe it or not, you can drive it in the State of California without plates & insurance if it goes under 30 mph & can be self propelled if the motor doesn't run...you know, under the California scooter laws. Look it up & you will see what I mean. I have squeezed 35 mph out of this but I prefer to ride it around town up & down the bicycle paths around 20 mph. I believe it weighs around 100 lbs. so it is easy to put into & out of the back of a pickup truck. It has a new 3 hp engine & clutch. All the graphics are hand painted & I call this one "Gasoline Alley". I am going to put on this site pictures of the first two as well but remember they are long sold - they are not here with us. Any questions, please call Frank Bird (951) 658-9386. If you want to buy plans for the scooter for $10.00 or the Scooter itself, let me know.
