George Hunzinger Renaissance Revival Walnut Rocking Chair, with the incised stamp "Hunzinger N.Y. Pat. March 30 1869", on the rocker. It has an upholstered seat back with turned and fluted stiles, joined to diagonally fluted braces, extending to the front of the rockers. h. 32-1/4", w. 24", d. 33".
Overall condition is solid and sturdy. The finish shows wear in a few places with small marks and scuffs, as well as some slight damage to the back of one brace. (see photos). ... There is also a repair on one arm, where it looks like someone replaced a missing piece for the arm rest. (see photos)It is being sold for local pickup only.
George Hunzinger was a furniture maker during the later half of the 19th century. He emigrated to the United States in 1855 and began manufacturing furniture in New York City. Like his contemporary furniture makers of the Victorian Age, Hunzinger's pieces are very decorative. What is unique about his furniture is the innovative and distinctive designs he patented.
