Rare John F. Kennedy Medal, For The July 8, 1966, Dedication Of The JFK Memorial Park, In Hyannis, Massachusetts. The obverse has a left facing bust of Kennedy, while the reverse bears a beautifully hand engraved "July 8, 1966, Hyannis, Massachusetts". On that date, the dedication of the JFK Memorial Park ceremonies were held in Hyannis. A large Bronze plaque of a left facing JFK is mounted on a wall in the park, such that he is facing the Bay he loved to freque...ntly go sailing. Another large Bronze plaque of the seal of the United States faces him on the wall. The large plaque on the wall was sculpted by, Agop M. Agopoff, Sc. who was a prominent sculptor and is listed in D. Wayne Johnson's book on American Medallists. who has won awards for his Portrait medals of John F. Kennedy. This medal is a reduction in size of the plaque that is in Hyannis, Mass. and signed below the bust "Agop Agopoff Sc.1966". The beautiful hand engraved wording on the medal's reverse, leads me to believe that only a few of the medals were struck, and that they must have been presented to dignitaries at the dedication, and for the Kennedy family members who attended that day. The medal is not listed in either the Mayhew or Rochette books on JFK medals. Struck in Bronze, 75 mm, by Medallic Art Co. New York on the edge, nice condition, but recently cleaned, and has a large stain on the reverse. The only specimen that I have seen.
