Opulent and complex, Stanley Hagler's jewelry combines cont...emporary design with antique components. He always used the finest materials such as hand-blown glass, Swarovski crystals, and Russian gold plating on filigree. Pieces were wired by hand, with stones and crystals prong-set into place rather than glued. His work has a strong architectural style and pieces look equally good whether they are viewed from the front or from the back.
One of the intriguing features of Stanley Hagler's jewelry is that it is often multi-purpose. The clasp of a necklace can be transformed into a hair ornament or pin, necklaces can become double bracelets, and certain earrings can be given an alternative look, simply by adding or removing various components.
During the course of his career, Hagler won 11 Swarovski awards for "Great Designs in Jewelry." He always designed jewelry he thought was "just plain pretty, " although his earlier pieces were less complex than later ones.
Hagler also gave much thought to how, when, and where a woman wears jewelry: earring had to hang perfectly, while a necklace should lie in a particular way as to be flattering. Although his jewelry was often large in scale, he varied the size according to current fashions. The name tags were also smaller or larger, depending on the size of the piece.
As well as his own jewelry, Hagler produced various designs for other companies, including jeweled swimming flippers, wigs, and jewelry that matched a prestigious range of luggage.
About Identification
Three designers were associated with the company: Stanley Hagler from the 1950's, Mark Mercy from 1979, and Ian St. Gielar from 1989. The marks from the 1950's had "Stanley Hagler" printed straight across an oval disc. On moving to Flordia, Hagler added "N.Y.C" to read "Stanley Hagler N.Y.C" on the curve of the oval. Jewelry bearing the tag "Stanley Hagler NYC, " with no period, has been designed by Ian St. Gielar since Hagler's death in 1996.International shipping must be paid
