Up for auction is a very attractive vellum papal bull with the original lead seal (bulla) still attached. This particular bull was issued during the papacy of Pope Clement XII (pope from 1730 to 1740) and dated 1736. There are signatures of the Roman Curia underneath the vellum flap. This nice example is in very good condition (there is a small hole in the left-center) and it measures approx. 13 1/2 x 8 inches with the vellum flap closed.
This is a very unique papal b...ull because, as seen in the photos, a red wax seal is affixed to the bottom left of the bull. This seal was torn from a separate paper document (also with another red wax seal) that will accompany the bull. I can only imagine this second document to represent some kind of "extra" authentication for the bull (other than the attached lead seal). This is merely a guess...more research is needed! Notice the interesting "Pro Patria" watermark on the separate document...some useful literature on this specific watermark on the internet.
Guaranteed to be completely genuine, so please bid with confidence!
