At just 19 years of age, he was also the youngest Warner Brothersproducer to date. While this album has received fairly dismissive reviews ingeneral, it is worth exploring just to hear this budding genius at work. It isquite an accomplishment that he created such atmosphere on tracks such as"Just As Long As We're Together" that do sound like a multi-personband grooving together. Also notable are the a capella vocals on the opener"For You" and the guitar playing on "I'm Yours". It's truethat this songwriting skills needed sharpening, as the single "Soft AndWet" was not really a memorable standout. FOR YOU is worth exploringand isn't as a bad record as some reviews might have you believe. It's animmature, but well executed blend of R&B and rock styles, not unlike his70s contemporaries The Brothers Johnson. Start with this album and listen tothe growth in his songwriting and performances with each consecutive release.This is the beginning of that journey.
