Hollywood Glam Vintage 1940 ' S Satin Wedding Dress. Bust 36 ",
Item History & Price
Statement making 40's elegance at its finest!
When the boys came home after the war, countless brides chose gowns of heavy slipper satin - the bridal fabric of the era. This spectacular gown has quite a few unusual details - the asymmetrical dip waistline, a fancy pleated accent that fans out beneath the sequined applique at skirt front. (I think this would show better with the addition of a full bridal petticoat), and the intricate beaded and sequined appliques. It has inter...ior panniers at the side hips - see my photo # 4.All satin buttons and loops are intact and secure. No underarm discoloration. Seams appear strong. This is a clean dress, it may never have been worn. If it was, it was cleaned. In my opinion it does not need to go to the cleaners. Minor blemishes here and there - certainly no flaws people would easily notice, in my opinion. The only condition issue worth noting is the repair at the illusion neckline in front. The fix is to have a seamstress lower the scoop neckline or replace the netting, which is tulle. To replace the netting, hand sew new tulle to the underside at the edge of the appliques, attach at shoulder seams and finish front neckline edge. Next cut away the old tulle close to the appliqued motifs and remove. Any skilled seamstress can do this repair. My mannequin measures 36" bust, 26" waist. If you plan to wear it these or smaller should be your measurements. Upper hip at about 3" down from smallest part of waist is 32". As you can see, my mannequin's butt was too big to close all the buttons. My next to last photo shows the generous 3/4" folded back dart. If needed, both back darts could be let out to accommodate a larger waist and hip. Seams are 1/2" pinked. Sleeves are 27" from shoulder to point. Small shoulder pads. Shoulder to floor front hem 60". Train from waistline seam to hem is 80". No mothballs, mildew nor smoking odors. No international bidders please.
