RARE 4 Uncut 1876 MEMORIAL HALL & EAGLE Patriotic Handkerchief w/ Orig LABELS This auction is for an extremely rare, uncut bolt of four (4) cotton handkerchiefs from the 1876 Centennial Exhibition in Philadelphia. This handkerchief is pictured on page 204 (textile 429) in the classic book Threads of History (Smithsonian Institution Press, 1979). Each kerchief has dimensions approximately 24 ½” wide x 20 ¼” high and features a blue border with white stars. The center design ...includes Memorial Hall and an Eagle with E Pluribus Unum. The bottom handkerchief retains its 2 original linen labels on the back. One is from the Oriental Print Works in Apponaug, RI and lists the price as 6 cents each. The other label identifies the subject as Centennial Handkerchiefs Memorial Hall. The overall condition is Fine to VF with scattered spots (heavier on the 2 lower kerchiefs), a small hole on the bottom kerchief, and wear to the Oriental Print Works label.
