Here's how I found this awesome, RARE photographic antiqueAt some point during the last couple of years, I sort of silently inherited a museum's worth of cardboard sarcophaguses in the back of the Wilcox Progressive Era newspaper office, in rural Camden, AL, USA. My grandparents had been running the newspaper in that country... town (pop. of 2, 321) google it!) since the year 1979. Hollis Curl, who took over as owner and publisher that year, was my grandfather. The Progressive Era building in Camden is where I work to this day, running the paper for as long as its legs can take me to save money for a new life.
I know very little about antiques or antique cameras, but I am a great researcher with an eye for novelty, collectible, things. I have over 15 antique cameras in great condition made by various model makers spanning from the early 1900's to the late 50's and 60's
THIS ONE IS:The ZEISS IKOFLEX 850/16 " The Coffee Can". ZEISS IKOFLEX 850/16 (1934-35). The Very First Zeiss TLR. Nick-Named "The Coffee Can" because of its shape and removeable film holder (see Serial N° upon request!! It's clearly stamped on the rim of the film holder, and I can attest to it's usage in identifying this valuable RARITY!One of the rarer ones, according to my research, but again--these items are for someone who has the time to appreciate their functionality, history, and collectibility. The camera is in Excellent and Full Working condition! .ZEISS (Triplet) Novar Anastigmat f:4.5 8 cm. Taking Lens & and Focusing Viewing lens . Shutter speeds from 1/25 sec. to 1/100 sec. T. and B . In Excellent Original Condition Externally and Internally. The Lens is clean no scratches!After a thorough and careful cleaning, I can only reckon there could be very slight amount of internal dust upon retrieval of the item. The dust is just character from another time, a wafty, aromatic artifactual scent that lends to this true GERMAN RELIC. It is in "ready to Use" Condition. The Shutter works at all speeds and is Accurate .. The Beautiful Black rough grained genuine Marocco leather covering is complete and in very good Condition. There is a small loss on the bottom from rubbing against a tripod. T he Black lacquer trim is in very good condition.
There is some edgewear, scratches and signs of age and handling but they are really not disturbing. The image on the ground glass is Bright and Sharp. There are signs internally that the camera has been used but it is still in very good condition.The Viewfinder opens correctly. ).This camera is equipped with an "Automatic Film Counter" that works perfectly. Just wind the film to the first exposure looking in the red window on the Right Side. There is a "Depth of Field" Guide guide next to the distance scale and an Exposure chart on the left flap of the viewer. * The camera was cleaned, lubricated and adjusted by a qualified camera repair just before listing.Please see all photos of the actual camera for condition . Purchased as a collectible for display OR REAL MODERN DAY USE! In "ready to use" condition and add to a vintage camera collection. I believe it would be difficult to find a better example of this Rare and Beautiful TLR camera. The Ikoflex 850/16 was made for less than two years from 1934-36. It is considered to be one of the Rarest and most Original models.
--------IMPECCABLE CONDITION. This TLR Zeiss Ikoflex camera, famously named the "coffee-can", is over 85 years old and an "iconic" addition to any collector/photographer's vintage collection! Lens is clean with very little haze. Finder is a bit hazy due to the age of the camera. All gears and mechanics work smoothly with no jam-ups or off-trackedness. Focuses smoothly and waist level finder opens and closes nicely. Two small pins missing from the opening mechanism of the finder, but it operates as it should and could be easily fastened to it's original likeness, DOES NOT INTERFERE WITH THE CAMERA'S FUNCTIONALITY. Yes! It works! The Ikoflex (850/16) is a TLR camera that was made by Zeiss Ikon from 1934 tiL 36 OR '37 depending on who you ask!I've learned When the Ikoflex was first introduced in 1934 it was simply the Ikoflex. In 1936 the Ikoflex II was introduced, and this became the Ikoflex I. Collectors often refer to it as the Coffee Can or Original Ikoflex. It carried the Zeiss product code 850/16, and was able to use both 120 and 620 film. The focus was by lever under the front of the lens. It has a very Art Deco design. Early examples have an Art Deco design on the top, while later models are leather covered. The camera was available with Novar lenses in 4.5 and 6.3, mounted in either Klio, Derval or Compur Rpaid shutters.
