Item History & Price
You are bidding on a RARE TO FIND...ANTIQUE 1910'S ERA AND USED IN TOTAL GHOST TOWN antique mining tag / exonumia / brass tag which says " M. V. M. CO. 147 THOMPSON NEV. (MASON VALLEY MINING COMPANY)" which was used in the historic short lived ghost town of THOMPSON NEVADATHIS IS A TOUGH NEVADA GHOST TOWN TO FIND EXONUMIA FROM.....IT IS A TOTAL GHOST TOWN TODAY, AND THIS WAS LIKELY USED AROUND 1913 WHEN THOMPSON WAS A MINING SMELTER TOWN FOR NEARBY MINES IN ...MASON VALLEY NEVADA (READ ABOUT HISTORY OF THE OLD BLUE JAY MINE, BLUEBIRD MINE, COPPER BELT RAILWAY, TOWNS LIKE WABUSKA AND LUDWIG NEVADA.THERE ARE ONLY A COUPLE TOKENS ISSUED FOR "THOMPSON" NEVADA, AND I ACTUALLY CONSIDER THIS TAG AS RARE OR EVEN RARER THAN THE TOKENS ...BECAUSE THIS VARIETY ACTUALLY SAYS "THOMPSON NEVADA" ON IT....A COMPLETE GHOST TOWN TODAY THIS IS AN "OFFICIAL" MINING TAG, THAT COULD HAVE BEEN ORDERED FROM A TOKEN DIE MAKER, OR MADE ON SITE....VERY NICELY MADE. (SOME OF THESE TAGS THEY WOULD STAMP OUT THEMSELVES AT MAYBE ON SITE MACHINE SHOP, ETC) Note the unique number 147.The site of Thompson is a ghost town today, located in Lyon County, in the Mason Valley, not too far from Yerington, Mason, and Fort Churchill NvOLD MINING TAGS ARE GETTING TOUGH TO FIND...SUPER TOUGH TO FIND ANYTHING EXONUMIA TAG TOKEN WISE FROM THOMPSON NEVADA REGIONI believe these old mining related tags are much tougher to find than people give them credit for compared to "trade tokens"....typically when tokens were produced...the merchant ordered a minimum quantity from a token company salesman (like l.a. rubber stamp)...of perhaps 100 pcs back in the day. Over the years these tokens were discarded, lost and tossed in a fire or dump... and only a couple specimens remain today............now consider these old NEVADA "mining tags"...they were typically crudely made, probably not bulk ordered, of if they were, made in small quantities, and sometimes I think produced at the site (in a little shop)....THIS ONE WAS LIKELY ORDERED FROM A DIE MAKER. This came out of a great old collection of Nevada mining tags.....this is a nice one.Mining company tag is brass, round shaped with suspension hole, about 38mm in size, and overall displays well. (please see pictures in gallery) Old mining tag once used at the M. V. M. CO. (MASON VALLEY MINING COMPANY) mining and smelting operations once located in region of THOMPSON, NEVADA (a ghost town today)Thanks so much for looking....collect and invest in history!!!!! Tangible assets are always the best ones....(but i guess bit coin is also there for you)
