Up for auction are two small antique prismatic opera glasses both around 100 years old. The first pair is marked "Lemiere Fabricant 5 Ave. De L' Opera Paris" and measures around 3" tall and 3.75" wide. It has a 6x magnification. The glass is in collimation and the prism system is relatively clear and provides a nice image. There are both center and peripheral focusing mechanisms. The leather covering the barrels is intacts (though shrunken a bit) and their... is brassing to the the black enamel in several places. The second glass is marked "Flammarion Paris Serie Opera 47269" and measures approximately 2.5" tall and 3.75" wide. The glass is also marked with the owner's initials and date - "H.L.G. Dec.19, 21." This glass has a 3x magnification. The glass is in collimation, but does have some internal clouding within the prism system. Nevertheless, a decent image can be obtained with the central focusing wheel (which has a few chips in it). Some of the black enamel paint has worn away revealing a silver metal underneath in places. The leather covering the barrels is in fine condition and a braided cord is attached to the glass. Both glasses have a nice weight to them attesting to fine machining.
