H&H Music Co was opened in 1945 in Houston, Texas by two brothers and is still in business today. In 1962, an employee proudly added the H&H badge to the top of this tweed Fender amp and put it out on the sales floor.Fender's narrow panel Tweed Champ is famous for its raw and immediate sound with plenty of breakup. Just perfect for practice and recording. This late 1962 Champ is the most desirable 5F1 tweed versio...n with the larger 8" speaker and narrow panel cabinet.CONDITION & ORIGINALITY
Purchased from the family of the original owner who had never modified or serviced the amplifier. This survivor amplifier has its original transformers, tubes, leather handle, speaker, and even the two prong plug. I had the torn original speaker reconed professionally, and left everything else exactly as it was.The original tweed shows plenty of wear and tear with staining at the bottom. The tube chart has partially flaked off. Some corrosion on the faceplate and screws. City Of Los Angeles inspection sticker is still on the original speaker. Both transformers are original with correct markings and undisturbed wiring. Original Sylvania, RCA and Tung Sol tubes.Speaker: original 8" speaker date code 465-225, 25th week 1962Power Transformer: 606233, 33rd week 1962Output Transformer: 606-2-19, 19th week 1962Serial Number: C19090MAINTENANCE & SOUND
Sounds great, loud and raunchy, with a little bit of Fender noise mixed in. Because it works great, and because of the originality, the usual plug & capacitor maintenance work was put off for now. Down the road you may want to replace the caps and 2 prong plug but right now the amp sounds great and is ready to enjoy. Hopefully it ends up back home in Texas!
