This beauty features an absolutely stunning American Walnut cabinet, zebrawood inlays, attractive gold dial, bright green magic tuning eye, great Art Deco appeal... and tremendous performance.Cabinet: The American Walnut cabinet is a real beauty. Gorgeous wood grain flows throughout the entire set. It's trapezoid shape, and pillared sides, remind you of the elegant craftsmanship so popular from the era. A large intricate cut grill certainly adds to the Art Deco appeal. Jet black trim and zebrawood inlays finish the set off with the perfect contrast. This highly desirable radio is sure to be the highlight of any room in the home or office you choose to display it in.Dial & Knobs: Silvertone's famous 'ring around the globe' gold dial is quite the attention getter. It displays the AM broadcast scale on the top and the police & shortwave scales on the bottom. All letters and numbers on the dial are legible and show very little signs of wear. The dial is illuminated nice and bright by a top mounted lamp. Located to the top left of the dial is a bright green magic tuning eye that opens and closes to indicate station strength. What an impressive sight! Especially in a dim or dark room. All four knobs are in perfect shape and control on/off & volume, tone control, tuning & band switch. Grill Cloth: The 1930’s style grill cloth is a fine replacement fabric featuring an antique gold color with a bright gold swirl pattern. This fabric can also be purchased separately in our eBay store or just click this link: https://www.ebay.com/itm/133330371171 Chassis: All tubes in the powerful 7 tube (including eye tube) chassis were testedwith any weak tubes being replaced. All caps, filters and resistors werechecked and replaced as needed. All brittle or bare wiring was replaced orre-insulated. The chassis has been cleaned, lubed and re-aligned for optimalperformance. Using the included copper line antenna the radio exceptionally well. I'm able to receive many stations across the AM broadcast band with great tone and plenty of volume. I was also able to pick up quite a few stations on the shortwave band, especially at night. The police band is no longer broadcast on but sometimes you can pick up some strange chatter late at night.
The Cabinet’s Finish, Restoration Process and Repairs: Our Radio cabinetsundergo a vigorous restoration process. Our goal is to maintain the naturalbeauty of the wood and grain, while providing a deep luster and shine. Weachieve this by removing all the old and worn lacquers and stains. We then sandthe cabinet with fine grit pads down to the original bare wood. Nicks, chips, andblemishes are filled and/or blended. Any loose veneer is re-secured. We makesure any filler applied or repairs made are blended nicely and do not detractfrom the beauty of the set unless otherwise noted. New stains and sealers areapplied by hand. We continue by using many coats of Mohawk brand lacquers andtoners applied in the same manner as when the radio was originally finished inthe factory. We use a nitrocellulose piano lacquer which is applied through aprofessional HVLP turbine spray system in a climate controlled room.Nitrocellulose lacquer is very thin. We also apply very thin coats. This allowsthe lacquer to seep into the grain and not cover it up. A fine grit wet sandingfollows every third coat along with a polishing process and ending with a QAR-Glaze rub (available in our eBay store or click here: https://www.ebay.com/itm/133346478270 ). Many hours of work are put into the radios, but as you can see, thefinal outcome is a beautiful, natural looking cabinet with gorgeous luster&shine. Antique tube radio reception can differ greatly depending on location, length of antenna, time of day and amount of interference in different areas. Many modern day appliances can also interfere with reception and cause static, distortion or buzzing. This is a 75+ year old AM radio. It's reception, sound and performance should not be expected to compare to a modern radio with today's technology. Playing capability is accurately described based on my location, surroundings and hooked up to a 12’ copper line antenna. The antenna will be included with the sale but I cannot guarantee reception quality in your area. It may differ (better or worse) depending on your location, surroundings, distance from AM broadcasts in your vicinity and interference. A USPS inspection of the radio, boxes, and all packing materials may be required.
