Since I am now getting out of verge fusee pocket watches I have decided to move this one along also - its my last and is with the watchmaker in England. So, whoever wins the auction the watch will be shipped to the new owner from the UK rather than from here in Sweden...
The key wind full plate fusee and chain movement with verge escapement, turned pillars and pierced, engraved balance cock, signed Barwise, London and numbered 510.
I have done considerable research on the Ba...rwise numbering and based on that I believe the movement dates to about 1790-1 but the cases are hallmarked to 1818.
Enamel convex dial with Roman numerals and reproduction but period correct poker and beetle hands,
bevelled bulls eye glass.
Silver pair cases both hallmarked in London 1818
case maker`s mark SB (for Samuel Brough).
With winding key.
In the outer case back is a watchmakers repair paper, from B. Maw, Beverley.
Outer case 49mm diameter, 70mm long, 28mm thick.
For the same of transparency the final picture (with red arrow) shows that at some point in the watch's history it has had a real bodger's job done on ''repairing'' the fusee cone..
Yes - the watch ticks over and I have worn it a few times but it has stopped a few times also.
I believe that because of its rarity and being an early work by a highly desirable maker this watch is worth the investment of having a competent watch maker give it a full service and to have a look at a proper repair being done to the fusee cone.
Auction with no reserve - no returns accepted - good luck in your bidding :)
NOTE: The silver fob chain shown in one or two of the pictures is NOT included... If you are the winning bidder you will receive the watch and key - NOT the chain :)
