John BielingJohn Bieling was born in New Jersey and moved to Vermont as a teenager. He attended Johnson State College in its arts program before being drafted in 1966. In 1979 John moved to Seattle, WA, where he gained valuable knowledge and work experience from time spent working with West Coast sculptors. John moved back to VT in 1986 and reproduced a weathervane from the Shelburne Museum's permanent collection, which led to a ...licensing agreement with the Museum for its Signature Collection. John continues to produce weathervanes and other sculpture in the time-honored, hand hammered manner.
This weathervane is one of his original pieces and it is signed by the artist. He told me that he modeled the tree for the weathervane after the Dartmouth University Tree Symbol.
It is a lovely pine tree with a great variegated finish in blues and greens with a hint of gold. The colors are also reflected on the arrow feather. The weather vane has been kept indoors and is in excellent condition.
I did not show it in the picture, but there is a short wooden stand that can be included to display the piece on a table, desk top, fireplace mantle.
The tree itself measures 18" tall, the arrow is 27" long and the tree with the pole is 28" tall. (the display pole showed in the pictures is not included)
