Original condition WALNUT CYLINDER ROLL TOP DESK two piece-- (top lifts off with the writing section and galley) for easy moving and shipping. 36" wide--24" deep--64-1/2" tall.The pictures show you the things I'm about to mention about the piece. Make your judgement of my accuracy by using the pictures to view it for yourself and your final opinion of what you are buying. Condition is very very good. Not perfect, but great for it's age. Has all it's original hardware, has ...all it's original wood and brass key hole surrounds, each drawer has it's original inserted lock assembly, The lock for the roll top is inset above the roll and has it's original assembly in place also, the door has it's original lock as well, brass hardware/pulls surround the key holes, 5 wood knobs-2 for secretary drawers & 2 for roll top all match with original slotted extended flatback screws used in this period of creation. 1 knob on the lower door has a replacement slotted flat head screw in it does not have extended flatback style.The leather insert in the writing surface shows a few scars from the century plus usage but is surface scrapes only. It is covered with a piece of glass (which I believe was added some years ago. As was another piece of glass covering the top galley shelf.) There is an additional cabinet style latch with 4 small screws added to the inside of the door which can be unscrewed easily. Inside the bottom chamber behind the door is a shelf which appears to have been there a long time having been added some years ago. Neither the latch assembly nor the shelf has created any modification affecting the structure of the original construction. (Merely surface attachments) Each drawer has Pin and cove dovetails used until 1890, (when mehanization began using sawed dovetails for speedier furniture making), WHICH DATES THE DESK PRE 1890.Note in the picture close up of the area above the top shelf that there is ONE of the HAND CARVED HEART CARVINGS near the center, broken off and gone. The close up photo's will also show some minor bubbling of the veneer. Any questions contact me before you bid.
