A pair of antique Chinese Swatow Pewter Tea Caddies, decorated with hand carved Chinese Characters and stylised vegetation. They are hand painted, with a bronze colour background and are highlighted with gold to their hand carved characters . Their push fit covers have a domed top and fit with a good airtight seal and they have a curved border running around all sides at shoulder level. They measure approx 3 5/8" or 92 mm wide x 2 1/4" or 57 mm deep and are raised on four bracket feet,... which give them a height of 6" or 152 mm to the top of their cover. They were hand made in Swatow and are both stamped on their base with their makers mark. They are each decorated with different combinations of character marks and are in good condition for their age, as this type of metal tea caddies have usually lost all of their painted finish. One has some paint loss from on and around its push on cover, with the other caddy having no paint loss at all and both caddies having no damage to their Pewter. Please see photo's
