DESCRIPTION:Only a few slight flea-bites on its knobby pouring spout blemish this otherwise extraordinarily well-preserved John Howell, Buffalo, New York salt glazed, stoneware ceramic American beer bottle from the mid to late 19th century. This is a particularly early and quite unusually decorated salt glazed stoneware ceramic beer bottle from the early Buffalo, New York brewery owned and operated by John Howell in western New York state. The bottle was found in upstate New Hampshire and was covered in silt and dust when found. It has since been very carefully dusted and gently rinsed to remove the layers of sediment which had up until that time, obscured the wonderful butterscotch colored glaze of its sloped shoulder and pouring spout, as well as its putty white bottom. The ceramic beer bottle is stamped with a maker's mark 'John Howell' on the sloped front sidewall. It enjoys a slightly rounded knobby pouring spout and glossy, highly reflective surfaces. It has no hairline cracks, sidewall 'knocks' or blow-outs. A very scarce, early New York breweriana piece and a wonderful mid to late 19th century American antique artifact from Buffalo, New York. Very handsome and very scarce. Simply killer color. CONDITION:Good to Very Good overall antique condition.
