This reproduction of an 1844 rocking horse is made of 100% solid cherry wood, has a hand-carved head and is fully assembled from a Bartley Ltd. kit. Wood workers will recognize the name, 'The Bartley Collection, Ltd' as makers of fine furniture reproduction kits. Bartley began business located at 121 Schelter Road, Prairie View Illinois and as the business grew and prospered later moved to Denton, Maryland.
The original antique horse from which the reproduction was copied was ...designed to be a child's toy. This particular piece is being sold as what it has always been used for, a piece of decor. It does not meet today's standards for child safety and should not be used as a toy. This unique piece is lovely when festooned with Christmas finery, sitting next to a fireplace, or adding charm and character to any room at any time.
The kit was purchased and assembled in the late 1980's. The upholstered seat and bridle pictured in the catalog photo were never added because it was not used as a toy. It was never stained because of its more rustic look unfinished.

It is marked on the bottom as a Bartley piece and the catalog page and price sheet from 2004 are included among the photos to further authenticate the piece. The catalogs from the 1980's, when this particular kit was purchased, were purged as newer ones were received incrementally from Bartley.
